A una festa di gala vengono inviati come camerieri (Stanlio e Ollio) due lavoratori alle tavole calde. La loro inespertezza causerà quindi molti guai: da Stanlio che litiga col cuoco perché ha il cappello (egli pensa che portare il cappello in casa sia maleducazione) a Ollio che non riesce a portare una torta a tavola senza caderci sopra... ma il culmine viene raggiunto da Stanlio che, all'ordine di portare un'insalata senza niente (in inglese undressed, che significa sia "svestito/a" che "non condito/a"), la serve in mutande credendo che "senza niente" sia riferito a lui. Così la serve in mutande e la proprietaria da un pugno a Ollio e lo fa cadere su una torta che aveva portato su un carrello per non caderci di nuovo sopra.
