Appassionati di cinema, tre giovani - Guido, Tonino ed Emma Crocetti - costituiscono la Cooperativa "La Svolta" e, approfittando del fatto che la Crocetti è figlia del padrone di un alberghetto, decidono di fare esperienze di "cinema verità" nelle camere dell'hotel. Con una parte del materiale ripreso, i tre si presentano al commendator Achille Mengaroni, vecchio produttore della Ursus indebitato fino al collo. Il volpone suggerisce di "manipolare" il materiale, di ottenere i permessi degli involontari attori e di strappare a qualcuno il consenso a condurre qualche scena a conclusione "commerciale". I giovani, anche se poco convinti, si danno da fare e riescono a portare all'astuto Mengaroni Fausto Talponi, un netturbino, e la sua amante Flaminia..
