A Song of an Unknown Actress

In un villaggio rurale indiano non distante da Delhi, alcune donne guidano una rivoluzione silenziosa contro il radicato stigma delle mestruazioni. Il cortometraggio documentario “Il ciclo del progresso”, diretto da Rayka Zehtabchi, racconta la loro storia. Per generazioni non hanno avuto accesso agli assorbenti igienici, una situazione che ha causato problemi di salute e fatto sì che alcune ragazze perdessero giorni di scuola o l'abbandonassero completamente. Ma quando nel villaggio viene installato un distributore automatico di assorbenti, le protagoniste imparano a produrre e commercializzare gli assorbenti, dando un grande esempio di emancipazione. Decidono di chiamare “FLY” il loro brand, per regalare a tutte un metaforico volo liberatore. Questo volo è stato in parte sostenuto dal lavoro di alcune liceali californiane, che, dall'altro capo del mondo, hanno raccolto i fondi iniziali per l'installazione del distributore e creato l'organizzazione non-profit “The Pad Project”.
