The masquerader [La mascherata]

Chaplin arriva agli studi Keystone, e subito il regista lo manda in camerino. Chaplin ne esce truccato da Charlot, e il regista gli spiega che la scena che si appresta a girare prevede che il vagabondo salvi un bambino che sta per essere pugnalato da un cattivo (interpretato da Jess Dandy). Ma Chaplin prima si attarda con alcune fan accorse sul set, e poi rovina la scena con la sua irruenza. Il regista decide quindi di sostituirlo con Chester Conklin, ma Chaplin per ripicca rovina nuovamente la scena. Il regista, furioso, lo insegue e quindi lo licenzia. Poco dopo, agli studi compare un'affascinante diva, calorosamente ricevuta dal regista che le promette una parte e fa sgomberare il camerino degli attori per farglielo usare. Ella si rivela però essere Chaplin travestito, che dopo aver ripreso le sembianze di Charlot, viene inseguito dal regista e dagli attori e da loro gettato in un pozzo.

Buster (Buster Keaton) sta goffamente giocando a golf quando ad un certo punto, colpito dalla propria palla rimbalzata sul muro, sviene. Proprio in quel momento passava di lì un evaso che approfitta dello stato di Buster per scambiare i suoi vestiti da carcerato con quelli normali del poveretto. Qualche poliziotto, dopo che Buster ha ripreso conoscenza, inizia ad inseguirlo vedendolo con gli abiti a righe e credendolo il carcerato. Egli cerca di andarsene, ma piano piano una moltitudine di poliziotti sempre più ampia inizia a inseguirlo. Una volta in prigione scopre che il prigioniero n° 13 (quello che gli aveva rubato i vestiti) sarebbe stato impiccato proprio quel giorno.

Frankenweenie

Victor Frankenstein (Oliver), ragazzino di dieci anni, è sconvolto dalla morte del suo amato bull-terrier Sparky (=scintillante), travolto da un'automobile. Ispirato dall'esperimento di Galvani sulle rane, costruisce con mezzi d'emergenza una macchina che lo riporta in vita. Prima dei titoli di testa, Victor mostra ai genitori il Super8 Monster From Long Ago, da lui realizzato, dove Sparky, travestito da stegosauro, è attaccato da uno pterodattilo. 2° film corto di Burton, sceneggiato da Leonard Ripps e prodotto dalla Disney, è uno spiritoso omaggio a James Whale e al vecchio cinema fantastico in forma di parafrasi semiparodistica di Frankenstein e La moglie di Frankenstein. Negli USA fu vietato ai minori di 12 anni non accompagnati. Horror in forma di favola, anticipa la poetica di Burton, vero autore con le mani di forbice.
