The setting is Russia, late in the 19th century. An engagement party is being held for Mitzy, the daughter of a duke, and the young nobleman Dmitri Ivanovich Nekhlyudov, at the estate of Duke Korchagin on the outskirts of Moscow. A large crowd of people, including Nekhlyudov's aunt Ivanovna and his friend Schonbock, have come out to bless the young couple. But news arrives at the party informing Nekhlyudov that the start of a trial in which he has been enlisted to serve as a juror has been moved forward. He leaves Korchagin's residence to fulfill his duty.

The story centers on Prime Minister Keisuke Kuroda, who has been called the worst prime minister in history. There is a certain hotel which caters to people who have lost their way. People trying to get their lives back on track, or simply trying to find out where they went wrong. One of the people staying at this hotel is Wolf, who playfully follows the self-absorbed young Anna around the hotel. No one knows what he did before he came there, though he used to joke that he was an assassin. Anna is a one-hit movie actress who now spends all of her time cultivating "patrons" to support her.

One day the young man is involved in a drive by shooting and loses his memory, then turns back to the piano and begins to perform beautifully..... A musical in which the protagonist is wrapped in trauma, that follows him until he is determined to search for his path in life, with his friend as an axis, and the distractions of his feelings for the many women he loses his heart to.
