La parola Pireneismo fu inventata dallo scrittore Henri Beraldi alla fine del XIX secolo. La sua definizione non si riduceva ad una semplice pratica dell'alpinismo nei Pirenei. Per essere riconosciuto come pirenaico, era necessario “salire, scrivere e sentire”. Un approccio alla montagna, secondo lui, necessariamente accompagnato da un'attività artistica o intellettuale. Questo documentario ripercorre i Pirenei che hanno lasciato il segno nella storia, prima di intervistare gli abitanti delle montagne contemporanee che, attraverso la loro pratica montana, si considerano, o meno, pireneanisti. Cosa ha spinto Beraldi a coniare questo termine? Risulta da un complesso pirenaico affacciato sulle Alpi? Sciovinismo o richiesta di identità? E oggi questa parola ha ancora un significato? Al di là della riflessione sul tema, questo film è un meraviglioso omaggio al massiccio.
