In the last minute Söderman finds out that a fox is the perpetrator. Peter Malm says he won't buy the seal. Vesterman is disappointed and the seal stays with the children.

The masquerader [La mascherata]

Chaplin arriva agli studi Keystone, e subito il regista lo manda in camerino. Chaplin ne esce truccato da Charlot, e il regista gli spiega che la scena che si appresta a girare prevede che il vagabondo salvi un bambino che sta per essere pugnalato da un cattivo (interpretato da Jess Dandy). Ma Chaplin prima si attarda con alcune fan accorse sul set, e poi rovina la scena con la sua irruenza. Il regista decide quindi di sostituirlo con Chester Conklin, ma Chaplin per ripicca rovina nuovamente la scena. Il regista, furioso, lo insegue e quindi lo licenzia. Poco dopo, agli studi compare un'affascinante diva, calorosamente ricevuta dal regista che le promette una parte e fa sgomberare il camerino degli attori per farglielo usare. Ella si rivela però essere Chaplin travestito, che dopo aver ripreso le sembianze di Charlot, viene inseguito dal regista e dagli attori e da loro gettato in un pozzo.

Non ha un ragazzo, ha pochi amici, a casa fa poco e nulla, ma è dotata di un altruismo fuori del comune. La sua vita cambia quando salva un gatto da una morte certa (acciaccato da un TIR) e questo lo ringrazia garbatamente proferendogli parole di elogio. inutile dire che la ragazza rimanga basita, ma ancor più basita rimane la sera quando riceve una ambasciata dal re dei gatti in persona che la invita al suo regno a vsisitarlo per ringraziarla di aver salvato il suo unico figlio nonchè erede al trono. Il giorno seguente dopo aver subito delle situazioni a dir poco particolari, viene eletta dai lacché del re come promessa sposa e trascinata nel regno.
