Shangku Shelter

Zanskar is a remote kingdom in the northwest Indian Himalaya, where local people are snow-bound for six months of the year. About 10,000 Zanskaris live in the isolated valley. In winter, mountain passes are blocked, the summer Jeep road closes and buses stop. Two decades ago, three friends founded a ski school - to enable winter travel in the valley, improve quality of life, and to encourage young people to stay in Zanskar by helping establish a culture of mountain sports. The film tells the story of this friendship, the ski school and the development of skiing in the area. Along the way a bigger question is raised. Most recently, the federal government announced a major road building project that will provide year round access to Zanskar. How can Zanskar's wilderness be preserved? It is only a matter of time before the winter road is completed, and the "Big India" rushes in.

Diretto dal cèco Forman, da due anni naturalizzato americano, ha un tono disincantato più che raffreddato: sintesi storicizzata dei ribollenti anni '60, celebrati come l'Era dell'Acquario e della contestazione giovanile

Gettysburg

Dal 1° al 3 luglio 1863 a Gettysburg (Pennsylvania) si svolse la più grande e sanguinosa battaglia (cinquantamila morti) della guerra civile. Le truppe sudiste del generale Robert E. Lee furono sconfitte da quelle nordiste al comando del generale George G. Meade. Scritto dal regista e basato sul romanzo The Killer Angels di Michael Shaara, prodotto dalla società televisiva di Ted Turner, fu messo in onda nei Paesi anglofoni in 3 puntate; esiste una versione per l'homevideo che dura quasi 6 ore. Piuttosto accurato, dal punto di vista storico-militare, nella descrizione della battaglia, ne rimuove sistematicamente la crudeltà e l'orrore: le morti sono tutte gloriose, pulite, istantanee, così come sono tutti valorosi, nobili e in buona fede sia gli unionisti sia i confederati.

Cose preziose

Lo Sceriffo Alan Pangborn è sconcertato: nella tranquilla cittadina di Castle Rock stanno avvenendo episodi di follia. Improvvisamente, amici carissimi, litigano e si fanno pesanti cattiverie. Pangborn non capisce il perché. Sembra esserci un nesso tra questi inquietanti eventi e l'apertura di un negozio di antiquariato nella cittadina. Benché l'antiquario, Leland Gaunt, sembri allo sceriffo un tipo strano e sfuggente, gli abitanti di Castle Rock ne sono entusiasti.
