The Stillness Syndrome

In 2018, a group of filmmakers calling themselves "Los Quietos" set out to make a film essay on a hypothetical syndrome of stillness in the Republic of Colombia. To this end, they invite Colombian documentary master Luis Ospina, presidential candidate Gustavo Petro and writer Juan Gabriel Vásquez to give them clues to delve into the history, geography and idiosyncrasy of Colombia, a country that, paradoxically, has very little of stillness. For unknown reasons, the project remained unfinished.

This direct-to-draw animated film on 35 mm film features the imagery of 10 European directors in a collective project. Each produced 1 minute of animation on film, drawing directly onto it in his or her own style.

The main characters of the film are businessman Mike and his friend and partner in smuggling Lev, a psychiatrist Mark and his school friend Irina who became the mistress of a nightclub, her two daughters - a crazy Olga working in the same club as a singer, and Masha - the “Moscow Princess” on the threshold of her thirtieth birthday. Love stories smoothly flow into a crime drama.

Life of a Mutt

Through seven scenes, the film follows the life and destinies of stray dogs from the margins of our society, leading us to reconsider our attitude towards them. Through the seven “wandering” characters that we follow at different ages, from birth to old age, we witness their dignified struggle for survival. At the cemetery, in an abandoned factory, in an asylum, in a landfill, in places full of sorrow, our heroes search for love and togetherness. By combining documentary material, animation and acting interpretation of the thoughts of our heroes, we get to know lives between disappointment and hope, quite similar to ours.

Joe Clay e Kirsten Arnesen si conoscono, lavorando nella stessa ditta, e si sposano. Spinta dal marito, accanito bevitore, anche la donna comincia a bere. In breve i due diventano alcoolizzati. Accortisi di essere sull'orlo della propria rovina e di quella della loro bambina decidono, di comune accordo, di smettere. Ma dopo qualche mese di astinenza ricadono nuovamente nel vizio. Joe, però, con l'aiuto di una associazione, l'"anonima alcoolisti", riesce alla fine a spuntarla e a non bere più. Non così Kirsten, che persevera nel vizio, abbandonando la famiglia e cercando facili avventure con alcoolizzati come lei. Joe è tentato di lasciarla per sempre, e di rifarsi da solo una vita. Alla fine, però, ha pietà della moglie e decide di restarle vicino nella speranza che sarà più facile indurla a tornare ad una vita normale.
