Nel 1946, gli alpinisti si sono formati alla scuola di arrampicata di Fontainebleau. Guy Poulet e Jacques Poincenot provano a scalare le Aiguilles de Chamonix ma falliscono durante la fase di salita. Dopo una notte in rifugio con Denise Rouzeau e la guida Pierre Allain, gli alpinisti fanno un altro tentativo. Dimostrazione riuscita per chi ha proseguito il cammino di avvicinamento poi il passaggio dei seracchi del ghiacciaio. Su roccia la cordata attraversa un camino e un crepaccio per raggiungere la vetta e calarsi in doppia. Sotto la supervisione di scout d'alta montagna, Guy e Jacques riscoprono i ghiacciai e le guglie del massiccio del Monte Bianco durante la lezione successiva.

The Man Who Skied Down Everest

Il film, Premio Oscar 1976 per il documentario, racconta dell’impresa eccezionale compiuta dal giapponese Yuichiro Miura che, dopo aver scalato l’Everest, la montagna più alta della Terra, il 6 maggio del 1970 ha avuto il coraggio di affrontarne, primo nella storia, la parziale discesa con gli sci sull’impressionante pendio ghiacciato con pendenze proibitive: due minuti fino a 160 km all’ora. Il documentario è la cronaca di questa eccezionale impresa narrata minuziosamente grazie al diario del coraggioso sciatore, che si è lanciato in quella “pazzesca” avventura fidando solamente sulla propria forza e sul paracadute che portava sulle spalle e che solo poteva frenarne la velocità prima della insuperabile crepaccia terminale.
