Nel febbraio del 1966, Pierre Mazeaud e Lucien Berardini si recarono sul massiccio dell'Atakor, nella catena montuosa dell'Hoggar, nel Sahara, nell'Algeria meridionale. Lì, tentarono una prima ascensione impegnativa: lo sperone di Takouba, una delle cime adiacenti alla Garet El Djenoun, una montagna leggendaria del massiccio dell'Hoggar, scalata per la prima volta da Roger Frison-Roche e Raymond Coche nel 1935. Il documentario, magistralmente girato da Jacques Ertaud, vinse il Gran Premio al Festival Internazionale del Cinema di Montagna di Trento nel 1966.

Sotto le stelle fredde

Girato tra le montagne della Carnia, dove il regista ha trascorso molto tempo tra il 2015 e il 2016 per seguire e riprendere la vita di alcuni abitanti di quei luoghi, il film può apparentemente sembrare un documentario osservativo sulla vita in montagna e indubbiamente si tratta anche di questo. Ma il microcosmo della Carnia su cui si focalizza il film risulta essere il riflesso di una realtà piú ampia e forse un espediente per parlare della vita dell’uomo, del suo rapporto con gli animali, la natura e soprattutto con il tempo. Come ne ha scritto Franco Piavoli: "un film che essenzialmente si affida alle immagini e al suono, ove appunto anche le parole sono suoni e musica della vita e del tempo che scorre ininterrottamente."
