The Mystery Man

Hard-boiled newspaper reporter Larry Doyle (Robert Armstrong) goes a bit too far in celebrating a work bonus and wakes up on a train bound for St. Louis with only a buck on his person. To remedy the problem, Doyle pawns the revolver he's carrying. When the gun is subsequently used in a murder, Doyle's problems only multiply. In the meantime, he's also fallen in love with a comely stranger (Maxine Doyle) he convinced to impersonate his wife.

La dominatrice del destino

Carmen

Questo cast stellare è impreziosito dalla produzione grintosa e realistica di Peter Hall e diretta da James Levine, che mette in luce tutta l'emozione crescente e il dramma avvincente nella musica di Bizet. Al centro della storia c'è Agnes Baltsa, il cui mezzo-soprano fumoso è fatto su misura per la zingara Carmen, una donna indipendente che si gloria nell'obbedire solo alle proprie regole, ma che è perseguitata dal destino. Il tenore della superstar José Carreras è Don José, il soldato di una piccola città che attira l'attenzione di Carmen e viene distrutto dalla sua crescente ossessione per lei. Samuel Ramey è il matador carismatico Escamillo, che attira Carmen lontano da Don José con tragico risultato.
