MILANO, 2 gennaio 2009 - Riccardo Cassin è stato il più grande alpinista dagli Anni '30 ai '50, poi eccezionale capo spedizione fino addirittura ai '70. Un mito che oggi compie 100 anni, festeggiato nella sua casa di Lecco. Dove sono voluti andare a rendergli omaggio insieme coloro che sono stati i suoi successori al vertice del mondo delle grandi scalate: Walter Bonatti e Reinhold Messner. Campioni proprio di quell'alpinismo classico di cui Riccardo Cassin è stato grandissimo interprete. Li abbiamo seguiti nella giornata che hanno voluto passare insieme a colui che hanno definito "un vero padre. E di quelli generosi". Riccardo ci lascerà il 6 agosto 2009 dopo una vita alpinistica senza eguali.

The body of Shinsuke Maeda, a wealthy older man, is discovered in his garden. While at first glance it appears that he missed his step while exiting into the garden and hit his forehead on a flowerbed rock, it is established that a safe installed in the living room has been emptied. It seems that, the night before, Maeda left the hospital he was staying at of his own will and came home, and was robbed immediately after returning. His daughter Yumie Nagano insists that Chikako Inui, a woman her father had been seeing, must be the perpetrator. She says that Maeda was thinking of getting married to Chikako soon. However, Chikako finds Yumie and her husband suspicious. Troubled by debts incurred by opening their ramen store, they pestered Maeda and he pushed them away. She calmly points out that Maeda gave her a will in which he left all of the 50 million plus yen hidden in the safe to her, so she had no reason to steal from him.

José Rizal

Accused of treason, Dr. Jose P. Rizal awaits trial and meets with his colonial government-appointed counsel, Luis Taviel de Andrade. The two build the case and arguments for the defense as significant events in the central figure's life prior to his incarceration unfold. Upon hearing Rizal's life story, Taviel begins to realize that the accused not just is innocent but exhibits in fact all the qualities of an extraordinary man. When the mock trial unreels, Taviel is all set to act as the prime advocate for his client as Rizal himself is about to give an earth-moving speech to defend his honor and address his countrymen. Meanwhile, the Spanish authorities have worked out the vast political machinery to ensure a guilty verdict. A revolution waits in the wings.

The Horse That Cried

An adaptation of a story by a Ukrainian writer Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky that anticipates the Ukrainian "poetic cinema" of the '60s in its focus on star-crossed lovers and its celebration of nature. Set in the 1830s, the film follows two lovers on the run - a girl forced into marriage and her boyfriend, a serf who's being sought by the authorities - as they try to make their way to freedom.
