Pororo: The Racing Adventure

Curious little penguin Pororo and his friends accidentally cause an airplane to make an emergency landing in their home of Pororo Village. On the airplane are some turtles being shipped to Northpia to deliver ice sleds, or racing ice cars. Nevertheless, Pororo and his friends believe that the turtles are racers, and the turtles end up giving the gang at Pororo Village some lessons and passing on the championship spirit. In the end, Pororo and his friends follow the turtles to Northpia to participate in the race. Upon arriving at icily beautiful Northpia's race, Pororo and his friends wind up unlikely front-runners, ahead of the polar bears, and make it to the finals. However, a more complicated course awaits Pororo and his friends- as does their strongest adversary yet.

Lamentations: A Monument to the Dead World belongs to a 35-hour film cycle, The Book of All the Dead, which comprises the bulk of Toronto-based Bruce Elder’s filmmaking from 1975 to 1994. In ancient Egyptian culture, the Book of the Dead consisted of religious texts intended to help preserve the spirit of the departed in the afterlife — but in Elder’s reading, that comforting idea of continuity takes on a rather darker cast. Lamentations is comprised of a complex audio and visual patchwork: a philosophical meditation superimposed as text throughout the film; vignettes featuring a comical but disturbing Franz Liszt, a debate between Isaac Newton and George Berkeley, an angry, deranged man in an alley, and an arrogant psychiatrist; and a final search for salvation in the forests of British Columbia, the American Southwest, and Mexico’s Yucatan.

L'uomo di ferro

È il seguito di "L'uomo di marmo" girato da Wayda nel 1976. È il caso del film di Greengrass che passa da un film che si potrebbe definire 'romantico' come La teoria del volo (protagonista Kenneth Branagh) a una cronaca dura e realistica. Irlanda del Nord, 30 gennaio 1972. Tredici persone muoiono e 14 vengono ferite dalle pallottole dell'esercito britannico che reprime così una manifestazione pacifica contro una legge che prevede la detenzione preventiva. La giornata verrà ricordata come la 'Domenica di Sangue' e segnerà l'inizio della guerra civile. Il film descrive in dettaglio gli eventi di quel giorno festivo seguendo quattro personaggi. Ivan Cooper, un cattolico che lotta per i diritti civili; Gerry Donaghy, un cattolico che ama una protestante; il generale MacLellan che guida le truppe britanniche e un soldato che si trova nell'occhio del ciclone. Il libro di Tom Wolfe sulla storia del programma spaziale degli Stati Uniti si legge come un romanzo, e il film ha la stessa qualità e fantasia. Esso affronta diverse fasi, dalla rottura del muro del suono da parte di Chuck Yeager, agli astronauti del Mercury 7, dimostrando che nessuno aveva la minima idea di come gestire un programma spaziale o di come selezionare le persone. Emozionante, divertente, affascinante ed elettrizzante tutto in una volta.

Peter Mullan, dopo un film sopra le righe come Orphans, sceglie un registro molto più realistico e ci parla di ognuna di loro con lo stile di una camera a mano che rende ogni inquadratura cruda e dolorosa. Lo fa con la sensibilità e la partecipazione a un destino segnato dalle convenzioni sociali e morali che negano il rispetto, la Fede e la libertà.
