India's Daughter

The story of the short life, and brutal gang rape and murder in Delhi in December 2012 of an exceptional and inspiring young woman. The rape of the 23 year old medical student by 6 men on a moving bus, and her death, sparked unprecedented protests and riots throughout India and led to the first glimmers of a change of mindset. Interwoven into the story line are the lives, values and mindsets of the rapists whom the film makers have had exclusive and unprecedented access to interview before they hang. The film examines the society and values which spawn such violent acts, and makes an optimistic and impassioned plea for change.

Dinosauri a colazione

Sul letto di morte Saul Gritz, un produce americano, si fa giurare dall amico Joe Mulholland che produrrà un film, ispirandosi al libro di gran voga love in sex. Joe accetta anche per far recuperare alla società cui appartiene un milione di dollari di un film-fiction a suo tempo messo allo studio e di cui poi non si fece nulla, ad eccezione di un orrendo dinosauro, testé piazzato in memoria del defunto nel giardino della società stessa. Joe dunque convoca Sid Spokance, un regista fanatico dei vecchi divi, lo sceneggiatore Herb Derman ed altri "cervelli" della produzione. Ma sono tentativi vani: nessuno riesce a far brillare uno spunto, ne a tesserci intorno una storia valida, forse anche perché i convocati hanno quasi tutti - ad eccezione proprio di Joe - vite emotive e familiari complicate e rappezzate. Così il film non si farà e, tutto sommato, ognuno capisce in cuor suo che probabilmente si sarebbe andati incontro ad un sicuro insuccesso.

Swan Song

After discussions with Schwartz, a producer from the West, screenwriter Stefan comes back to Poland. Everybody reminds him of his previous success: “The Flame”. The tired protagonist goes back to his wife, actress Ewa, who is eagerly awaiting him. Ewa goes to an audition which doesn’t turn out too well. On the next day, Stefan and his collaborators are wondering what to write a scenario about. Meanwhile, Stefan has a tooth ache. He decides to visit a dentist but is scared away by the price he has to pay for the treatment. Stefan still can’t find an idea for a scenario, and Ewa is not being cast. They decide to sell the car, but a man who takes their car out for a test drive doesn’t return. Stefan is changing ideas for the scenario constantly, he can’t make up his mind… at home, a pipe goes off… the wine he keeps in gallons blows up… the milicia (People’s Republic of Poland’s police) comes and general chaos ensues, as they are drowning in water and wine… which gives Stefan an idea…

Shohei works as a doctor in a seaside hospital. One day, a new patient is admitted to the hospital with ovarian cancer. Shohei is surprised to recognize Michiko, his first love from high school. Shohei has been leading a dissolute bachelor life, paying for the company of high school girls and dating an older woman who works in a local bar, but in reality, for the last twenty years, he has not forgotten Michiko. Unfortunately though, Michiko doesn't remember him at all. Shohei becomes more and more persistent in his attempts to get her to recall their past. At first she is annoyed by his overtures, but gradually warms to the doctor. Under Shohei's kind and patient care, Michiko's condition improves and her cancer becomes operable. The operation is a success, but now Shohei himself learns that he has terminal cancer.

Gasherbrum - La montagna lucente

Il regista documenta la spedizione italiana di Reinhold Messner e Hans Kammerlander ai Gasherbrum I e II avvenuta nel 1984. Scopo della spedizione era la traversata in stile alpino delle due vette, impresa mai realizzata fino ad allora. Il film documenta le fasi di avvicinamento, la permanenza al campo base, la partenza per la vetta, il ritorno dalla vetta ed il periodo successivo, focalizzandosi, più che sugli aspetti tecnici, sugli aspetti psicologici dei due alpinisti, in particolare di Reinhold Messner. Messner, che perse un fratello nel 1970 sul Nanga Parbat, parla tra le altre anche di questa esperienza, e rimane particolarmente turbato quando Herzog gli rivolge una domanda diretta sull'accaduto. Si tratta principalmente di un film intervista, intervallato da riprese delle montagne del Karakorum. Le riprese della traversata, svoltasi in parte in condizioni di maltempo, sono state realizzate dallo stesso Messner
