Life of a Mutt

Through seven scenes, the film follows the life and destinies of stray dogs from the margins of our society, leading us to reconsider our attitude towards them. Through the seven “wandering” characters that we follow at different ages, from birth to old age, we witness their dignified struggle for survival. At the cemetery, in an abandoned factory, in an asylum, in a landfill, in places full of sorrow, our heroes search for love and togetherness. By combining documentary material, animation and acting interpretation of the thoughts of our heroes, we get to know lives between disappointment and hope, quite similar to ours.

Assalto al treno

L'ultima scena è la più emblematica del film e mostra il capo dei banditi, che, seduto e inquadrato fino al busto, alza la pistola e la punta contro la macchina da presa (gli spettatori), sparando verso l'obiettivo senza batter ciglio. La scena, che, a discrezione del proiezionista, poteva essere montata anche all'inizio del film (e fu l'unica a essere colorata a mano), aveva un effetto a sorpresa ed era destinata a sorprendere il pubblico. Se montata all'inizio poteva valere come anticipazione dell'azione successiva, se montato alla fine era una sorta di minaccioso avvertimento che il cattivo poteva tornare, soprattutto tenendo conto che gli spettatori ben sapevano che nella realtà il capo dei banditi del vero assalto al treno era ancora libero.

Un cavallo per il cowboy

Un ragazzo sogna di diventare un cowboy. Dopo aver acquisito le basi, come descritto nella canzone che dà il titolo al film, viene attaccato dagli indiani. Finisce le pallottole e riesce a prenderli al lazo. Fuma il calumet della pace con il loro capo. Un rapinatore sta bloccando una diligenza e lui va in soccorso, rifiutando la ricompensa. Salva anche un treno da un ponte fatto saltare con la dinamite e una ragazza legata a un cactus, prima di cavalcare verso il tramonto (e tornare al suo letto di periferia).

Topolino vince il bandito

Siamo nel selvaggio West e Topolino si sta recando al saloon per prendere un drink dalla bella Minnie. Entrato si mette a ballare, ma per sbaglio tira il naso a Minnie che lo picchia e lo manda a suonare il pianoforte; ma poco dopo fa irruzione Pietro Gambadilegno che si mette subito ad importunare Minnie. Topolino accorre e fronteggia il nemico che, con l'inganno, spegne la luce e ne approfitta per fuggire via con Minnie. Topolino lo insegue a cavallo e riesce a far fermare il mulo di Pietro che fa precipitare, per il brusco arrestamento, il suo padrone. Atterrato Pietro riceve un enorme masso in testa che lo rende simile ad una fisarmonica e si allontana; finalmente Topolino e Minnie possono stare insieme.

La topolina viene però rapita da Pietro, uno dei clienti, che se ne è invaghito e la porta a casa sua. Topolino lo insegue e trova Minni incatenata al muro. I due rivali iniziano quindi a sfidarsi con la spada, finché Topolino non infila in testa a Pietro il suo vaso da notte. Liberata Minni, Topolino la porta via sul suo nandù, e i due si baciano.
