Gli indesiderati d’Europa

Il film mette in relazione, in chiave poetica, la "retirada" dell'esercito repubblicano spagnolo in fuga da Franco nel 1939 e il viaggio all'inverso, lungo il medesimo sentiero, realizzato l'anno successivo da Walter Benjamin in fuga dal nazismo. Un movimento bidirezionale che riecheggia analoghi movimenti in atto nell'Europa contemporanea. Non molti sanno che il filosofo Walter Benjamin, i cui scritti hanno influenzato autori come Theodor Adorno e Hannah Arendt, tentò di fuggire dalla Francia occupata dai tedeschi per raggiungere la Spagna e imbarcarsi per l'America. Nel suo viaggio incontrò un ostacolo che gli parve insormontabile e che ne segnò l'esistenza. Con sé portava una valigia a cui teneva in modo particolare in quanto contenente i suoi ultimi scritti che non sono stati più ritrovati.
