E' il 1970 quando Mauro Forghieri, ingegnere e capo progettista della Ferrari, decide di far debuttare in pista un nuovo modello di auto sostenuto dalla potenza di un motore rivoluzionario, il mitico V12 contrapposto della Ferrari 312B: il primo motore “piatto” della storia delle corse, progettato in origine per una fabbrica aeronautica americana “per poter stare nell’ala di un aereo”. Nasce così la Ferrari 312B, che debutta nel 1970 permettendo ai suoi piloti di punta, Jacky Ickx e Clay Regazzoni, di vincere quattro Gran Premi e di gareggiare fino all’ultimo per il titolo mondiale. Ma è soprattutto a partire dalla rivoluzione inaugurata da questa vettura, una delle auto più belle e più potenti che la fabbrica di Maranello abbia mai progettato, che si apre per la Ferrari uno straordinario periodo di vittorie che dura almeno un decennio (1970-1980) con 37 vittorie nei Gran Premi, 4 titoli mondiali costruttori e 3 titoli mondiali piloti.
