Il giovane Mathayus (Michael Copon) vive in un popolo sottomesso dalla dittatura di Re Sargon (Randy Couture), un perfido tiranno che possiede poteri soprannaturali. Mathayus si ribella alla volontà del re ma questi, usando i suoi poteri, ucciderà suo padre. Sconvolto dal dolore Mathayus intraprende un lungo viaggio per scendere negli inferi accompagnato da un intellettuale greco, dove troverà la spada di Damocle, l'unica arma esistente sulla terra che possa sconfiggere l'invincibile re dotato di grandi poteri magici donatigli dalla dea degli Inferi, Astarte. Alla fine Mathayus ha la meglio e, dopo averlo ucciso, restituisce la spada agli inferi.

Vita di un libertino

Vita di un libertino (Koshoku Ichidai Otoko) è un OVA del 1991 che riprende un episodio dall'omonimo romanzo di Ihara Saikaku. La trama prende spunto dal tentativo del goffo Juzo di portarsi a letto la famosissima cortigiana Komurasaki, per vincere una scommessa dalla posta molto alta. La narrazione rimane però sullo sfondo, dato che l'OVA si concentra più sul versante grafico e musicale per creare un'atmosfera, piuttosto che una storia - la quale comunque ha un suo svolgimento compiuto. Molto particolari il chara-design e gli sfondi, ispirati alle stampe dell'epoca (il primo periodo Edo) in cui è stata scritta e ambientata l'opera. L'animazione lascia invece un po' a desiderare, e salta all'occhio come gli autori avessero tutt'altre priorità in mente.
