Nicoletta Bianchi si arruola nell'esercito cambiando il nome in "Nicola", ma nessuno se ne accorge. La ragazza ha così l'occasione per sorvegliare il suo fidanzato piuttosto incline alle divagazioni sentimentali. In seguito al suo arrivo nel reggimento avvengono numerosi fatti strani e divertenti: un soldato è costretto a tenere nascosto nella tenda il suo figlioletto, due soldati imbranati Samperi e La Rosa smarriscono il codice per la traduzione dei messaggi cifrati e come se non bastasse si avvicina il giorno delle grandi manovre.
