The lion alternates between finding the food on the cage floor and reaching through the bars to swipe at the man, who stays alarmingly close to the beast. Lasciando il loro equipaggio indietro con la nave, Mikkelsen scivola sul ghiaccio con il suo membro dell'equipaggio inesperto, Iver Iversen. I due uomini riescono a trovare la prova che la Groenlandia è un'isola, ma tornare sulla nave richiede più tempo ed è molto più difficile del previsto. Combattendo la fame estrema, la fatica e un attacco di un orso polare, arrivano finalmente e trovano la loro nave schiacciata nel ghiaccio e il campo abbandonato.
