La marcia dei pinguini segue da vicino il viaggio di una colonia e successivamente una coppia di questi che affronta diverse marce affinché il piccolo possa resistere al freddo e alla fame del periodo dopo la sua nascita. Il film mostra le sofferenze dei pinguini durante la loro riproduzione, partendo dalla marcia che dall'oceano li porterà all'interno della regione ghiacciata. Qui si formeranno le coppie che si riprodurranno e aspetteranno la nascita del loro unico figlio. Alcuni piccoli muoiono dal freddo ed il motivo è perché uno dei pinguini ha sbagliato qualche passo della loro danza facendo così cadere l'uovo nel ghiaccio e facendolo congelare... e allora la madre va a rubare il figlio ad un altro pinguino
