NOFX: The Final Show (Night 3) Oct 6, 2024

NOFX brought the curtain down on four decades of punk mayhem this weekend, as they played their final shows at Berth 46 in Los Angeles. Changing setlist for each gig, California's pharaohs of punk took a varied, often fast and usually silly journey through their massive catalogue, accompanied by a crew of mates including Rancid's Tim Armstrong, Bad Religion's Brett Gurewitz and Foo Fighters' Chris Shiflett. As they finished up on Sunday night (October 6), it ended in typically chaotic fashion, doing The Decline with a host of guests, with Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge smashing the band's instruments. Frontman Fat Mike recently insisted that this would be it for NOFX, with no future reunions ever to happen. A promise such behaviour will help to keep... Before that smashey ending, they turned up to suck live one final time...

"Let's Get Loud" was Jennifer Lopez's NBC Special, which premiered on November 20, 2002 and was recorded over 2 nights in Puerto Rico in the fall of 2001. It was Jennifer's first-ever headlining concert appearance, showing off her talents as a vocalist and dancer. Night Journey, the dance, had its premiere only two and a half years after Appalachian Spring, and it is a close cousin. It too has a stream-of-consciousness narration: Jocasta, as she is about to kill herself, remembering what has happened to her. It too contains soul-delving solos, broken up by ensemble dances. Here, however, the ensemble is a darker element. As the story was taken from Greek tragedy, so the corps is the equivalent of Greek tragedy’s chorus. They tell us how to feel: afraid mostly. In this piece Graham pushed her habitual economy to its limits.

Nightwish: End of an Era

End of an Era è un album live del gruppo musicale finlandese Nightwish. È stata l'ultima apparizione di Tarja Turunen come cantante del gruppo, nonché l'ultimo concerto del tour mondiale Once Upon a Tour 2004/2005, che promuoveva l'album Once, da cui sono ripresi 8 dei 18 brani presenti in questo live. Al concerto partecipa anche John Two Hawks, nativo americano, suonando il flauto in Stone People. L'intro e l'outro dell'album sono stati composti da Hans Zimmer. La copertina raffigura le statue di un angelo e un demone che si danno le spalle. Al centro c'è un altro piedistallo molto alto sulla cui punta si trova un cuore spezzato circondato da scariche elettriche. Nello sfondo rovine di templi e un cielo nuvoloso.

Due ragazze completamente agli antipodi si incontrano in treno, mentre questo è costretto per via della neve a stazionare in un punto morto della linea. Unica cosa in comune che le lega sembra essere il loro nome e l'età. Entrambe si chiamano Nana. Ma mentre una è una rocker, all'apparenza dura e molto matura, l'altra è la tipica giapponese carina e sorridente e dall'aspetto un po' infantile. Le due alla fine si lasciano e ritornano alle proprie vite. Si viene così a sapere che Nana Osaki è una cantante che ha lasciato da poco il suo gruppo. Uno dei componenti, il suo ragazzo, si è unito ad un'altra band, molto in voga in Giappone. Affranta e completamente sola, va in cerca per la città di un appartamento e il destino vuole che capiti proprio nella stessa abitazione in cui si trova Nana Komatsu, la ragazza incontrata sul treno.
