Privacy and cookies

The short version: FilmSimili has no accounts, doesn't ask for your email and doesn't sell anything. We use anonymous statistics to understand how to improve the site, and we remember some of your choices only inside your browser. The full version is below.
What data we process
Browsing data
The site is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. Like any website, to show you its pages and protect them from abuse, the servers receive some technical data: IP address, browser type, requested page, date and time. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running the site securely (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Movie search
Movie details, plots and posters come from The Movie Database (TMDB). When you search for a movie, your browser contacts TMDB's servers directly, and they receive your IP address and the search text. This processing is necessary to provide the service you asked for. Details in the TMDB privacy policy.
Trailers
When you press “Trailer”, the video is loaded from YouTube (Google) in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Only from that moment does Google receive your IP address and playback data, under the Google privacy policy. If no trailer is available, the button opens a YouTube search.
Usage statistics
We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how the site is used: where people click, how far they scroll, where they get stuck. Clarity collects usage data in pseudonymous form and may record browsing sessions, masking the text you type. We don't use it for advertising or to profile you. Memory in your browser
To make "Seen it", "Not for me" and Corn's ideas work, FilmSimili saves in your browser (localStorage) the movies you started your searches from, the moods you picked and the movies marked as seen or skipped. This data stays on your device: it isn't sent to us and we can't see it. You can delete it at any time with the button below.

Data outside the European Union
Cloudflare, Microsoft, Google (YouTube) and TMDB may also process data in the United States. In these cases the transfer relies on the safeguards provided by the GDPR, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
How long
Technical browsing data is kept by Cloudflare only as long as strictly needed for the security of the service. Clarity data is kept by Microsoft for up to 13 months. Data in your browser stays until you delete it.
Your rights
You can ask at any time to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict its processing, object to it or receive it in a portable format, and you can withdraw your consent without affecting processing that already took place. If you think your data is being handled improperly, you can lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
