Biography: ​From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Dean Parisot is an American film and television director. Parisot won the 1988 Academy Award for Best Short Film, Live Action for The Appointments of Dennis Jennings which starred and was co-written (with Mike Armstrong) by comedian Steven Wright. Among his television credits are episodes of Monk, Northern Exposure and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Parisot is the son of Ellen James (née Lewis), a painter and art teacher, and Aldo Parisot, a well-known cellist and pedagogue. He was married to film editor Sally Menke until her death in 2010. Parisot is a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and also took part in the Sundance Institute's June Lab. This Pirates of Penzance is primarily a historical document, part of the Broadway Theater Archive television series. It presents, with some inevitable, tiny technical shortcomings, a live 1980 performance in Central Park, not the 1983 movie of the same name that also starred Linda Ronstadt and Kevin Kline. Those who remember that film, which had the benefit of retakes and editing, a lavish production budget, and the spaciousness of a Hollywood studio, may find this video less polished. On its own terms, it is nonetheless thoroughly enjoyable.
