He graduated from the University of São Paulo with a bachelor's degree in advertising and completed his Master of Fine Arts in film and production at the University of Southern California. Before making his feature debut, Nine Days, Oda wrote, directed, and supervised projects for Philips, Telefonica, Movistar, InBev, Whirlpool, Johnson & Johnson, Honda, and Nokia. He is a Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab alumnus and was nominated for a Latin GRAMMY Award for best music video in 2012.
