Biography: Bhandit Rittakol was an award-winning Thai film director, producer and screenwriter. His films include the controversial biographical film of Thai communist revolutionary Seksan Prasertkul, The Moonhunter; the jungle thriller Tigress of King River and The Seed (Duay Klao or Thai: ด้วยเกล้า), a semi-documentary story of Isan farmers hit by drought who are saved by cloud seeding operations sponsored by King Bhumibol Adulyadej, as well as the Boonchu teen comedy series of the 1980s and 1990s. The Seed

After each annual Royal Ploughing ceremony, grains of rice paddy are distributed to farmers. Saokam, a farmer, takes some paddy to grow in his field, while Buarian just keeps one seed for worship. Since then, Saokam keeps growing rice with that paddy. Ten years later, the paddy fields suffer a drought. There is not enough water, even for drinking or bathing. Some have to mortgage their own fields to pay the bills, while Buarian takes advantage of her neighbor's poverty.
