The Seed

After each annual Royal Ploughing ceremony, grains of rice paddy are distributed to farmers. Saokam, a farmer, takes some paddy to grow in his field, while Buarian just keeps one seed for worship. Since then, Saokam keeps growing rice with that paddy. Ten years later, the paddy fields suffer a drought. There is not enough water, even for drinking or bathing. Some have to mortgage their own fields to pay the bills, while Buarian takes advantage of her neighbor's poverty.

The Elephant Keeper

For many years, Asian elephants were used in the relatively simple, low-intensity logging operations in Thailand and elsewhere in the region. As the move to scythe down whole forests progresses, there is less and less use for these elephants: heavy machinery works more efficiently in a clear-cutting situation. In this story, a young elephant keeper manages to save the life of a forest ranger, dedicated to keeping the national forest preserves safe from poaching. The elephant-keeper, on the other hand, is economically compelled to work for the poachers in order to keep his family fed, and to preserve the family lands from sale by a greedy businessman who once loaned them money.

A Son of the Northeast

A historical drama set in the 1930s Isan province Thailand, telling the travails of a small clan of subsistence farmers and their village as a particularly bad drought reduces them to bush living.

Red Bamboo

In a Thai village childhood friends Kwen and Sompan are looking forward to make the world a better place within their ideology and beliefs. Kwen is a communist and Sompan is a monk. The film is a subtle metaphor for the troubled Thai political situation of the 1970's.

Daeng, a teenage boy loses his senses from the past when he sees his father, mother, and sister. Pete, were killed by his mother's adulterous man. Daeng lives on the streets of Bangkok, harassing people for days. by seeing everyone as a mother or family member.

Factory Angel

Oi comes from up country to work in a fabrics producing factory. She gets to know a middle age lady named Jan whom she loves as her mother. Rungson, the plant manager, is very fond of Oi, so he moves her to work in the factory office. Jan wins the Queen of Factory, but soon she gets sick from tuberculosis, but the factory management just ignores her, so Oi has to take care of Jan. Rungson wants to send Oi to Japan to compete in the Cotton Queen pageant.
