Crocodile Dreaming

Crocodile Dreaming is a modern day supernatural myth about two estranged brothers, played by iconic Indigenous actors David Gulpill and Tom E. Lewis. Separated at birth, they have different fathers. The other, whose father was white, is younger and has had to struggle to fit into the tribe who see him only as a yella fella.

The caffeine kicks in and they both begin to play, however as the days go on MoeMoe begins to act weird. After each cup she becomes more aggressive, fidgety and her eyes widen. Noodle is terrified of what his friend is becoming and decides to no longer make coffee for his friend. MoeMoe will not have this and threatens Noodle into giving her more , but there is no more coffee left. Noodle wants to save his friend. He trades his collar for some calming leaves he gets from koala. MoeMoe drinks then coffee with the leaves making her calm and chilled.

This single-channel video explores the effects of technology and information overload on the contemporary psyche. Set in a virtual tech-noir urban space populated by strange hybrids of non-humans and augmented people, part of the expansive, fractured narrative focuses on the continued adventures of Xanax Girl and her search for her companion—a hybrid dog/seal with the head of a boy—who has been abducted. The film, which arose from the artist’s daily practice of animating his dreams using hobbyist 3D software, weaves together deep-web imagery with hardboiled detective story tropes and repressed libidinal fantasies to create a nightmarish vision of an internet addict’s unconscious. The film features an original score by Oneohtrix Point Never and James Ferraro.
