MIGRANTS, a short film by Paul Chadeisson, is the first short film presented by Oats Studios in a new playlist that will become a curated collection of Oats' favorite short films from their favorite artists. Many years ago, humanity started the process of terraforming Mars. We follow the thoughts and prayers of one of the "cleaners" who work on this titanic project.

Kino Kopf is the first of its kind a sentient humanoid VHS camera. They are given a life by their mother but presented to the world by their father. Kino Kopf is the next big sensation and spurs a technological revolution. They are soon forgotten and alone as new models surpass them. Kino Kopf is left alone to contemplate if they ever had a soul, as visions of an electric cowboy dance through their dreams.

Not Alone: Songs from the Nebula

In the second installment of Not Alone, eccentric 80s rock star, Alex Estrella, reappears 70 years after mysteriously disappearing on stage and is interviewed by the skeptical, Stacy Kay, for her talk show. Alex's reasons for disappearing are as strange and confusing as they are for suddenly reappearing, and the answers to Stacy's questions leave her wondering what to believe.

A Grand Day Out

Fire Craft

In a city of a parallel world. A boy finds a pair of broken scissors from his father's belongings after he passed away. And a boy's mother tells him that his father had been a gardener in the past. Then he figures out the scissors were made by Sasuke, who is an artisan living in a foreign country. The boy travels all the way to a place where Sasuke lives in order to get his scissors fixed.

Sugar Glass Bottle

Near-future Tokyo. Kou, through the help of his high school best friend, finds a surprising way to express his mounting frustration at the insidious forces of commercialism that are forcing out the neighbors he cares most about. Initially inspired by a prank that the writer-director Neo Sora (The Chicken, 2020) had pulled on him in his childhood, a sense of warm nostalgia and cold, material reality intermingle to tell a tale set in the not-so-distant future about disappearing spaces and the forces of policing and gentrification that drills this process forward.

When Devan’s ex-girlfriend, Skye, knocks on his door with unmerited forgiveness and sexual desire, his naive lust leaves him too late to discover the monster which lies beneath her skin.

Swirlee

Tells the story of Mr. Softee, a mutant hybrid with an ice cream cone for a head, who was the victim of the anti-miscarriage drug "Nodroppinum" which changed the pregnant mother's child into whatever food she craved at the time (a parody of the Thyladimide scandal from the 60s.) Softee was the head of an ice cream company, until he was forced out of business by the artificial ice cream mafia, led by Don Tofutti.

Dope Fiend

Fran is waiting for her partner to join her for therapy. Consumed by her internal voice, the waiting room becomes transformed.

That Which Once Was

In 2032 an eight-year old boy, displaced by global warming, fends for himself as an environmental refugee in a hostile northern metropolis. The film tells the story of a robot named Rob. One day he was walking around the city and saw an elderly man sitting in a chair inside the Store of Unwanted Things. Next to the man, there was a sign “For Sale.” The owner of the store said that the goods were up for sale. The man's name was Robert. Rob wanted to have a friend. He made a purchase and received a receipt. Robert explained that he was now Rob's pet and from now on Rob should provide him with a roof over his head, feed him, and make sure he doesn’t get bored. The robot and man started living together…

The Peter Weyland Files: Quiet Eye, Elizabeth Shaw

After introducing herself and apologising for her persistent attempts at contacting Weyland, Dr. Shaw raises some of the grand unanswered questions facing humanity — including what happens after death, the purpose of man's existence, where we came from and whether we are alone in the universe. She goes on to explain that she believes she has found a place where these questions can be answered, but that she needs Weyland and his vast resources to get there. Finally, she politely requests a meeting in person so that they can discuss her findings.
