Muhammad: The Messenger of God

Muhammad: The Messenger of God is an 2015 Iranian film directed by Majid Majidi. The story revolves around the childhood of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The film marks Iran's biggest-budget production to date and is the first part of the planned trilogy on the life of the Prophet. Barring a few scenes filmed in South Africa, the majority of the filming was done at a colossal set created in the city of Qom near Tehran. The film was officially announced in October 2011 and its filming was completed by 2013. The cinematography is done by Vittorio Storaro and film score is composed by A. R. Rahman. The film was selected for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Oscar ceremony in 2016, but was excluded from the short list.

Summer 1890. In order to make some money to feed his family, Anton Chekhov, modest physician, wrote short stories for newspapers to sign Antosha Tchékhonté. Milan Rastislav Štefánik was the first Slovak to circumnavigate the world, to climb Mont Blanc, to survive the shooting down of his ice-plane during World War I. He was an intellectual, scientist, inventor, astronomer, national hero, but also a lover of women and a bon vivant. 100 years ago, everyone considered his dreams a utopia, but he was not afraid to step into the unknown and realise his dream of liberating his own nation. His life story seems almost unbelievable, considering that he did it all as a single man in failing health, from the poorest of circumstances.

Initially attracted to painting, David Lynch ends up choosing the medium of film to express his talent. Far from being an attempt at biography, this film is an imaginary vision where the action could take place today. Which encounters or events leave their mark on the young David L. during this year as a student? “The Dreamlife of David L.” is a dreamlike journey that leads the viewer through the meanderings of this art school.
