Celebrating the end of World War II and liberation of their city, a group of students is set on holding a cultural evening. They invite Ema, a reclusive piano teacher from the same building, to play for them. Ema declines, but starts reminscing back on her own life and the historical events that have seemingly overshadowed it.

In 1983, yacht sailor Will Parker leads an American crew financed by millionaire Morgan Weld to defeat during the America's Cup race against an Australian crew. The main focus of the story is a young girl, Maša Artuković, allegedly possessed by Satan, whose deteriorating state results in the arrival of Viktor Supilo, a priest who is to conduct the rite of exorcism upon her. The ritual is to be performed in the presence of Maša's sister Vera, a known psychiatrist Sofija and an unannounced crew of TV reporters that want to expose exorcism as a controversial and dangerous ritual that has no place in the modern Catholic Church.
