Who doesn't dream of their own apartment, especially in the city center? The heroes of the film, two ordinary married couples, are no exception. The film is in four parts. First, the camera pans the Kremlin and Marshal's Bridge. Sleds are parked in rows. Horse-drawn sleighs run up and down a busy street. Next, we visit the mushroom and fish market where common people work and shop. In Petrovsky Park are the well-to-do. Men are in great coats. A file of six or seven women ski past on a narrow lane. Last, there's a general view of Moscow. A slow pan takes us to a view above the riverfront where the film began.

Chu Liuxiang is having drinks with his friend, Monk Wuhua. Gong Nanyan of the Holy Water Palace suddenly appears and accuses Chu of having stolen the palace's Heaven's One Holy Water and committed a series of murders. She agrees to give Chu a month's time to clear his name, or else the mistress of the palace will kill him. Chu's curiosity and eagerness to prove his innocence spur him to investigate the case.

It is springtime for everyone. However, Prince Ahmed - a fine young boy living in the most wonderful palace existing, does not rejoice over it. On the contrary, he drags along languidly from one lesson by Eben Bonabben, his wise tutor, to another. Today, it cannot be denied that Ahmed is very learned: he knows everything about everything, including talking with birds. No, not everything mind you. There is ONE realm that is not his: the kingdom of the heart. The reason is obvious, although unknown to the prince himself. A pianist takes his ailing wife out of a London hospital at the same time that another female patient there has suffered a miscarriage. Afterwards, the second woman feels empty and withdrawn, and, thinking that getting her away from London will help, her husband takes her to live at a country estate, which turns out to be the former residence of the pianist who left after his wife died. The woman begins to get visions of the wife and her final days; is she becoming possessed by the dead wife of the pianist?
