Quilombo

Quilombo dos Palmares was a real-life democratic society, created in Brazil in the 17th century. This incredibly elaborate (and surprisingly little-known) film traces the origins of Quilombo, which began as a community of freed slaves. The colony becomes a safe harbor for other outcasts of the world, including Indians and Jews. Ganga Zumba (Toni Tornado) becomes president of Quilombo, the first freely elected leader in the Western Hemisphere. Naturally, the ruling Portuguese want to subjugate Zumba and his followers, but the Quilombians are ready for their would-be oppressors. The end of this Brave New World is not pleasant, but the followers of Zumba and his ideals take to the hills, where they honor his memory to this day. Writer/director Carlos Diegues takes every available opportunity to compare the rise and fall of Quilombo with the state of affairs in modern-day Brazil.

Like Father, Like Son

The story of people who really wanted to be happy | Like walking slow, like singing joyfully, it's living. Legendary rock singer Tae-soo (played by Kim Sang-joong), who dominated the music scene in his childhood, visits his son Gun-sung's house in 15 years. Tae-soo, whose philosophy of life is to live so roughly that even his son's name is Gun-sung, is far from the traditional image of a responsible and sacrificial father. Meanwhile, son Gun-sung is a man of good living who prepares music and study step by step as planned so as not to be like his father, and I don't like Tae-soo, a father from one to ten. The relationship between the two, which is a mixture of affection and affection that has been building up for 15 years in a quarrel, is hardly narrowed.

Mahmoud Darwish was a Palestinian poet and author who was regarded as the Palestinian national poet. He won numerous awards for his works. Darwish used Palestine as a metaphor for the loss of Eden, birth and resurrection, and the anguish of dispossession and exile.

The Inheritors

A neo-Nazi organization is recruiting in the 1980s, and two youths of high-school age join for similar reasons, despite class differences. Thomas is the son of a self-made industrialist father and a scolding social-climbing mother. He attends private school and has a brother who's an accomplished musician, but neither can satisfy mom's constant demands for school and social success. She belittles them, and there's incessant bickering at their table. Charly, a dropout, is the son of an abusive, alcoholic laborer. In prison the boys locate the man and help him escape, only to find out that their benefactor is a con man and on the way himself to the slammer.

At a sales meeting, Theo sets up his partner and escapes with money and drugs along with one of the buyers. The buyer soon turns out to be an undercover cop. Theo makes a fateful decision in the face of arrest.

Utburd

"Utburd" is the myth about the children abandoned in the woods to die. Adrian is trying to depict this tale of old in his second novel, but he is suffering from total writer's block. He joins childhood friend Kristine and three other companions on a cabin outing to get away from the writing. But when they get to the woods, he tells of the legend. Suddenly the group isn't so sure anymore: is "Utburd" really just an old ghost story?
