Two Sisters

Violeta and Vyollca Dukay live in the south of Kosovo, close to the border with Albania. Faced with a very high unemployment in their country since the end of the war, they became deminers. They’ve been going to the minefields every day for six years now. The unique and very strong relationship that exists between the two sisters helps them to overcome their fear and to keep hoping in spite of the precariousness of their situation and the risks they run each day to earn their living.

Hurdle

Hurdle provides an inspiring and visceral look at the next generation of Palestinian youth living in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The characters, separated from one another and living in the shadow of the Israeli separation wall, are united in their pursuit for self-determination. In an unexpected turn, the characters utilize the sport of parkour and the documentation of daily as tools to attain personal and political freedom. In a world with towering walls and constrictive checkpoints, the characters must bury self-doubt in order to lead their communities through a dramatic year of political and violent conflict.

Marching Forward

Two dedicated high school band directors—one black, one white—were inspired by music to cross the color lines of segregation and work together for the sake of their students. This courageous cooperation resulted in the experience of a lifetime for both black and white students traveling from the Deep South to the 1964 New York World’s Fair. In 1832 the government of Van Diemen’s Land sent the last Aboriginal resistance fighters into exile at Wybalenna on Flinders Island, bringing an end to the Black War and opening a new chapter in the struggle for justice and survival by Tasmanian Aboriginal people. Black Man’s Houses tells a dramatic story of the quest by Aboriginal people to reclaim the graves of their ancestors against a background of racism and denial. Documenting a moving memorial re-enactment of the funeral of the great chief Manalargenna, the film also charts the cultural strength and resilience of his descendants as they are forced to fight for recognition in a society that is not ready to remember the terrible events of the past.
