Here we will "mess around" with it thoroughly, in his spirit. In other words, you will get an adaptation that is VERY loosely based on Strindberg. Madam Flod will be lovesick, and Carlsson will be senile. The farmhands will have tons of funny lines, the maids will scream at the top of their lungs when the farmhands want to flirt, and the pastor won't be sober for many minutes. And the ending? No, we won't let anyone die here. These are new times! Strindberg was bold. Bold—so are we! Cheers, Strindberg!

He is sure that he will make some grave error in table deportment and afford them all a laugh. To the amazement of Merrit and the guests Harry's table manners are faultless. Then, to trick him into an embarrassing position, Merritt eats with his knife. Harry, realizing that it is proper for the guest to follow the example of the host, does likewise. He leaves the house chagrined but more determined than ever to get justice from Merritt.

Outside of Paradise

Daniel Francis O'Toole, singing maestro in a New York restaurant, finds himself the unexpected heir to an estate in Ireland. He doesn't have money enough for the passage to Ireland, but the band members decide to incorporate him, advancing him the fare for equal shares in the estate. In Ireland, Danny finds that his is only a half-share, and the other half belongs to Mavourneen Kerrigan and she has the exclusive right to sell or keep the property...which, despite his pleas, she refuses to do.
