From the late 1950s through the '70s, more than 90,000 of the ethnic Koreans in Japan emigrated to North Korea, a country that promised them affluence, justice, and an end to discrimination. KAZOKU NO KUNI tells the story of one of their number, who returns for just a short period. For the first time in 25 years, Sonho is reunited with his family in Tokyo after being allowed to undergo an operation there. Sonho’s younger sister Rie is at the centre of the film, and is not hard to recognise as the director’s alter-ego. In her documentaries DEAR PYONGYANG and SONA, THE OTHER MYSELF, Yang Yonghi told the story of her own life, and how, at age six, she experienced the departure of her three older brothers, who left their family for Pyongyang.

Squillo

Maria, a provincial Polish girl, travels to Milan to pay her older sister Eva a surprise visit. The sisters haven't seen each other in seven years and Eva has changed a lot. She lives in a luxurious apartment and dresses in designer clothes. Although she pretends to be an interpreter, Eva is actually a call-girl and, one night, fails to return from an appointment. Maria enquires at the hotel where Eva last worked. Eva's body is soon found. The investigation is conducted by Inspector Messina, a trendy cop. Maria and Messina become an inseparable investigating team. Maria poses as a call-girl in order to reveal her sister's killer and they use mobile phones to keep in touch.

Beth, Milena, and Carina are three college students who've shared some of Rio's most wild and legendary parties for the past few semesters. After living in New York for a year, Beth returns on New Year's Eve a changed girl, willing to mend her ways and grow up. Milena and Carina, however, are not happy about their friend's change - Keen on stopping Beth form becoming "respectable" at all costs, they show up at her house with dozens of friends to celebrate the New Year. Before dawn, secrets will be revealed, friendships will be tested, hearts will broken, and tears (and other bodily fluids) will be spilled. As the night unfolds, we also witness past events in a seedy nightclub, which changed the lives of those three girls forever.
