Yello - Live At Montreux Jazz Festival 2017

When YELLO was awarded the Kunstpreis der Stadt Zürich back in 1997, Claude Nobs, the legendary founder of the Montreux Jazz Festival, eulogised about the band, saying: "I worked as a cook and know about food. YELLO uses only fresh ingredients". In response, YELLO made a promise on stage that if they ever performed live in Switzerland, their first time would be at Nobs's festival in Montreux. Twenty years later, on July 12, 2017, YELLO kept their promise and performed at Montreux. Claude’s successor, Mathieu Jaton, announced the band simply thus: "Ils sont là. Ce soir. A Montreux. Pour vous!"

Beyond

During the final days of WWII, chaos ruled. The German submarine U-461 went down along with its entire crew just off the coast of Denmark. "Earth Summit Mission" is the first 4K documentary recording a scientific expedition. The 60-minute Earth Summit Mission documentary is a record of the second Chinese scientific expedition to Mount Qomolangma which took place in the summer of 2022. It involved around 200 scientists, led by Yao Tandong from the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In the course of the expedition, the scientists set a number of records, from collecting ice and snow samples from the highest point on Earth and setting up the world’s highest weather station, to sending up an observation aerostat to an altitude of over 9,000 meters.

The Fable

Spring 1989. High up in the Indian Himalayas, where even the birds fly low to avoid getting lost in the clouds, the soft-spoken Dev owns a sprawling estate of several orchards and lives in a colonial-style house with his family. Dastak

Tells the story of newly weds Hamid and Salma. They move into a rental flat next door to the local red light district. The flat had been the former home of a well known mujra and qawali singer, Shamshad. Men still come to the door in the hope of seeing Shamshad and do not seem too put out by seeing Salma despite her protestations. The couple struggle to live within the bounds of their own moral code while the earnings of prostitution seem to be flaunted around them. Hamid gets more and more angry and seemingly unable to reconcile his morality with the immorality of the world and at one point beats his wife and then rapes her making her into a 'whore' of his fantasy. The story here bears resemblance to the later 'Ek Chadar Maili Si' by the same director and seems to explore the complex world of women and sexuality as viewed by Indian men: mother, goddess, whore. This film also explores the ethos of prostitution in its reality and as a metaphor for the outside world.
