Baian the Assassin

This is an ensemble period drama adapted from Shotaro Ikenami's popular novel, featuring the famous Kabuki actor brothers Kinnosuke Manya and Katsuo Nakamura, who made the transition from the Kabuki world to the film industry, and a cast of gorgeous and diverse faces. The Edo period. Nagato Abe, a Hatamoto (a feudal lord), is annoyed by his son's bad behavior, and when it becomes a hindrance to his own career, he asks Otowaya Hanemon, a black marketeer, to assassinate his son. The target is then taken care of by the assassin, Umeyasu. In order to keep his mouth shut, Nagatomon no Mamoru also attempts to take Otowaya's life. Nagato's brother-in-law, Omiya Sahei, a corrupt merchant from the Kamigata region, also plans to replace Otowaya as the head of Edo's black market business, so Umebayashi and his fellow trapper Hikojiro set out to eliminate them.

The story of the relationship between the King who is renown for his ruthlessness and his subject who became his trusted steersman. They met when the King decided to disguise himself as commoner to see how his subject was doing. He befriend a commoner after a fight to decide who should win the girl’s hand. They become blood brother and the commoner was assigned to be his steersman. When there was an assassination attempt at the King, the steersman tried to evade the threat and cause the boat to run aground with death penalty. It’s time to see if the friendship is stronger than the rule of law that the King must have absolute authority over the life of his subject regardless of their personal relationship.

Cher... and Other Fantasies

Cher... and Other Fantasies is a 1979 prime time network special starring singer and actress Cher, featuring songs from her latest album "Take Me Home". In this special, Cher finds herself trapped in a strange building, where various fantasies await her behind every door. The memorable opening number “Aint Nobody’s Business” sees Cher on a tour of fashion from Eve in the Garden of Eden to disco at Studio 54 all while parading in dozens of stunning Bob Mackie creations. There's also a roller skating fantasy sequence and a second Garden of Eden moment when Andy Kaufman shows up as Adam and Cher plays the snake. Elliot Gould guest stars as a painter who resides in the building, Shelley Winters turns up in a skit about acting and Lucille Ball plays a cranky old washerwoman. To date this is Cher's last traditional variety-format special. The program was nominated for a 1979 Primetime Emmy Nominee for Outstanding Costume Design for a Limited Series or a Special for Bob Mackie and Ret Turner.
