Finding Babylon's Hanging Garden

There are many myths surrounding the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Previous excavations have not led to an answer to the question of exactly where they were located. Thanks to the extraordinary findings of scientist Stephanie Dalley, it is now possible for the first time to determine exactly where the legendary gardens were located, what they looked like and how they were built. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon are the only one of the seven wonders of the ancient world for which no archaeological evidence has yet been found. For the documentary, Stephanie Dalley from Oxford University traveled to a dangerous, terror-stricken region in northern Iraq to gather evidence for her new theory about the true location of the gardens. Stephanie Dalley assumes that the gardens were built a hundred years earlier - 700 years before Christ - and by the Assyrian king Sanherib instead of Nebuchadnezzar II.

Oman - The Treasure of Mudhmar

To the east of the Arabian desert, an ancient culture developed; and it attainted the sophistication of its civilized neighbours in Mesopotamia & Iran. The extreme aridity of the spot, combined with the strictness of religious prohibitions, discouraged archaeologists for a long period of time. Only recently, a group of French scientists initiated a large-span excavation. Their aim is to comprehend how this society succeeded to prosper, despite a natural environment so hostile to any conditions of life. The answer seems to be the refinement of a revolutionary, water management technique. Yet beyond such technical prowess, this documentary provides a unique look to discover a unique way of life; but also the pre-Islamic religious beliefs of this milieu.

Hollywood: Lights, Camera, Blasphemy!

"No film may throw ridicule on any religious faith..." So began Article VIII of the Hollywood Production Code, a series of ethical guidelines that for forty years helped the motion picture industry produce many of the greatest and most family-friendly films in history. That was then, however, this is now. A revered "historical" movie quietly takes every opporturnity to lie and twist the facts in order to make Christians appear as backward, foolish hypocrites. An actress jumps at the chance to play a Christ-hating role, saying, "I'm an atheist, so it was a joy." One of Hollywood's most respected directors films a passion play written by a disciple of Friedrich Nietzsche, the father of the "God is dead" movement. Not surprisingly, the movie's Jesus helps crucify people and later confesses that satan is inside him. A media mogul states that "Christianity is a religion for losers."

Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: Simply The Best

Explore the birth of the iage of "The New Man" in human hostory. Delving into the legends if the Colossus od Rhodes and the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, host John Romer demonstrates how these monuments projected a new vision of the human form into the popular consciousness. A mmoth figure of ivory and gold, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia ruled over the Olympic games. Before this venerable statue lay a huge, shallow pool of olive oil, which reflected light onto the figure. The Colossus of Rhodes was built with sheets of bronze and stood guard over the island of Rhodes. Perhaps the most astounding aspect of both monuments was that the sculptors modelled their faces in the image of man. Today, this image is mirrored in our own Statue of Liberty,

Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: The Magic Metropolis

Host John Romer ventures to the sites of two ancient cities created by Alexander the Great - cities that were considered among the most beautiful and unusual the world had ever seen. We also explore the culture and environment that created several of the seven wonders. This episode examines two unparalleled testaments to the power of the era: The Pharos (Lighthouse) at Alexandria, which stood more that 300 feet, making it the tallest structure of its time, and the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, which was considered one of the greatest tombs ever created. The Mausoleum's perimieter was not decoreated with icons of ancient gods, as was the custom of the time, but with ennobled and enlarged figures of real people. These statues are thought to have been an inspiration for the citizens - telling them they could be as great as the gods.

There were 365 squares in Rome, 365 streets, 365 palaces for the popes and each palace had 365 steps and each step was covered with bread enough to feed the world. It was a dream of poor people. imagining a legendary past. A past of endless wealth and wonder.
