Neanderthal: The Mystery of the Bruniquel Cave

Discovered in 1990 in the Aveyron Gorges, near the village of Bruniquel, Bruno Kowalczewski discovers a cave which shows evidence of being inhabited by Neanderthals as far back as 47,000 years ago, with stalagmites arranged in circles. What significance do these limestone rings have? From when exactly do they date? For fear of damaging the remains, the excavations were stopped in the late 1990s, leaving these questions unanswered. Beginning in 2014, a new team relaunches research into the cave. Using the current uranium-thorium method, calcite samples are dated to 176,500 years ago, revealing the construction as one of the oldest ever discovered underground. This stone circle is surprisingly complex. How was it built and what was it used for? This is a story of a discovery that brings new elements to the capabilities of the Neanderthals.

Voyage to the Edge of the World

On his ship "Calypso," as well as in a submarine, Jacques Cousteau and his crew sail from South America and travel to Antarctica. They explore islands, reefs, icebergs, fossils, active volcanic craters, and creatures of the ocean never before seen. This voyage took place in 1975, and Captain Cousteau became one of the first explorers ever to dive beneath the waters of the frozen South Pole.

La Cordée de Rêve

La Cordée de Rêve traces the great alpine journey made from August 2000 to February 2001 by Patrick Berhault. His great crossing of the Alps, here told to his daughter, will be done sometimes alone, sometimes surrounded by friends: Patrick Gabarrou, Patrick Edlinger, Ottavio Fassini, Gaël Bouquet des Chaux, Valérie Aumage, Philippe Magnin. During this alpine trip he will find his brother-in-arms Patrick Edlinger for the dolimitic part and will also see the genesis of the "Cordée Magique Berhault/Magnin". For 167 days, in sneakers in the fall, on touring skis in the winter, Patrick Berhault chained 2 to 3 stages of an average hiker daily, swallowing 1,500 to 2,000 meters of vertical drop and up to 45 kilometers per day. , and climbed 22 peaks. It's called that: "La Grande Cordée" but behind this title lies an exceptional human and sporting performance.

Wara

'Wara, road to the stars' takes us on board to the 'Wara Wara Del Sur', a Bolivian train that goes from the Argentinian border to La Paz. The director meets local musicians on the road with the hope of meeting the 'Wara', the Bolivian Pink Floyd.

North Of Ourselves

By attempting to travel 2,960 km from southern Quebec to its northernmost point, by bike and skis, in the middle of winter, adventurers Samuel Lalande-Markon and Simon-Pierre Goneau want to reinvest the territory and reflect on the identity and collective relationship that Quebecers have with it. Their journey begins at kilometer marker 720, an obelisk-shaped monument located on the border with the United States, and ends at Cape Anaulirvik, north of Ivujivik, the northernmost point of the Ungava Peninsula. Over the course of a 91-day expedition, they set out to meet the country in all its immensity, splendor and impetuosity, a country that suddenly reveals itself to be less abstract, less distant, more real.

Hang Son Doong which translates as “mountain river cave”, is the largest cave passage in the world and a place of spectacular beauty. With more people having climbed Everest than visited Son Doong, its pristine charm has remained undisturbed for millions of years. In 2014, Son Doong’s future was thrown into doubt when plans were announced to build a cable car into the cave. With many arguing that this would destroy its delicate eco-system and the local community divided over the benefits this development would bring, the film follows those caught up in the unfolding events. Beautifully shot and scored, “A Crack In The Mountain” is a powerful exposé about how both good and bad intentions can ultimately lead to one of the world’s greatest natural wonders being trampled for money. The Lost Neanderthals

The Mandrin Cave in southern France has been attracting the attention of archaeologists for 30 years. The cave was regularly occupied in prehistoric times, and a remarkable record of human habitation going back thousands of years has been preserved by its soils. In 2015, the remains of a Neanderthal were uncovered, and the archaeological evidence points to this individual, named Thorin, living in close proximity to newly arrived Homo sapiens. This documentary follows an international team of scientists as they discover and investigate precious relics of the Paleolithic period, resulting in groundbreaking revelations about the human populations of around 50,000 years ago as researchers uncover some of the secrets of the Mandrin Cave.
