Lamentations: A Monument for the Dead World

Lamentations: A Monument to the Dead World belongs to a 35-hour film cycle, The Book of All the Dead, which comprises the bulk of Toronto-based Bruce Elder’s filmmaking from 1975 to 1994. In ancient Egyptian culture, the Book of the Dead consisted of religious texts intended to help preserve the spirit of the departed in the afterlife — but in Elder’s reading, that comforting idea of continuity takes on a rather darker cast. Lamentations is comprised of a complex audio and visual patchwork: a philosophical meditation superimposed as text throughout the film; vignettes featuring a comical but disturbing Franz Liszt, a debate between Isaac Newton and George Berkeley, an angry, deranged man in an alley, and an arrogant psychiatrist; and a final search for salvation in the forests of British Columbia, the American Southwest, and Mexico’s Yucatan.

Simply Red - Symphonica In Rosso - Live At Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam

Simply Red headlined the annual Symphonica in Rosso music event in Holland on 25, 26, 27 October 2017. Mick Hucknall brought some of his best-loved songs to be accompanied by a 40-piece symphony orchestra. The spectacular red setting and famously good sound & lighting that the show employs promised to make this a truly memorable show. Without doubt Mick Hucknall is one of the country’s most gifted singers with a voice like no other. His band Simply Red have had an incredible career so far with 5 UK number one albums, and selling over 60 million albums. ‘Symphonica In Rosso’ is an annual event in Holland where a prestigious artist is invited to perform over three nights with a full orchestra, with Simply Red’s 2017 series marking its 10th anniversary. Previous artists to play ‘Symphonica In Rosso’ include Diana Ross, Sting, and Lionel Ritchie.

Dean is a wreck of a man trapped in an abyss of drugs and unsafe sex, living his life with little concern for himself or others. Teetering on the edge, hardly anything or anyone can affect Dean’s lifestyle except the need for more drugs. Though proclaiming himself “straight” Dean is willing to do just about anything to satisfy his urges, including participating in orgies and gay sex in the back of a car. Other characters include Dean's neighbor Ellsworth who barters Ketamine (special K) for sex, Brioni who throws a party/orgy and Cyja - Dean's ex-girlfriend and drug counselor.
