Coffee House Chronicles: The Movie

This film, based on the web series, features nine vignettes in the lives of LGBT people as they date and hook up in Los Angeles.

Saltwater

Will leaves the Navy after many years, soon reunites old friends and begins to start his new civilian life. His friend Rich tries to set him up with ruggedly handsome Josh. While there is immense chemistry between the two, timing and certain ideals never seem to align. When a shocking tragedy happens, the two are paired up to pick up the pieces and sort through the after effects.

Old Narcissus

74-year-old Yamazaki, having been handsome as a young gay man, grows narcissistic of his beauty and is unable to bear his own aging. One night, Yamazaki meets a young and beautiful man named Leo. Having loved only himself during his long tumultuous life, Yamazaki falls in love with another person. Through this love, he finally begins to forge the relationships he failed to carve during his youth with his friends and family.

Pages in the Wind

When a gay young adult recalls journal entries about a relationship with his roommate, the arrival of his best friend may solidify that his roommate will never be the man he desires and that his fantasies are meant to remain as words on a page.

High Art

When Syd, a young editor at an influential art magazine, becomes involved with her neighbor, a drug-addicted lesbian photographer, both seek to exploit each other for their respective careers while slowly falling in love with each other.

A Stormy Night

When a heavy storm threatens the city of New York, two complete strangers –a cynical documentary filmmaker from Spain and an idealist app programmer– find themselves sharing shelter, questioning each other’s understanding of life, happiness and love.

Isaac

Two childhood friends, Denis and Nacho, meet again years after having an intense relationship as teenagers. Now with their respective partners, the couples grow close and end up fulfilling each other's needs while breaking rules to discover their truths in the process.

The Big Sleaze

Chuck Peterson is a young slacker with big dreams. Disowned by his family and ignored by his peers, he diligently pursues his dreams of writing a fantastic children's book to become famous and strike it rich. But due to a bipolar disorder and lack of creative talent, he slums his way through life relying on small time scams to keep himself afloat. When his gangster roommate makes him an offer he can't refuse, Chuck immediately takes the chance to clear himself of all his debts. But things go from bad to worse when the plan makes Chuck a prime murder suspect among a plethora of pornographers and terrorists!

Bolero

The film follows four families, with different nationalities (French, German, Russian and American) but with the same passion for music, from the 1930s to the 1960s. The various story lines cross each other time and again in different places and times, with their own theme scores that evolve as time passes. The main event in the film is the Second World War, which throws the stories of the four musical families together and mixes their fates. Although all characters are fictional, many of them are loosely based on historical musical icons (Édith Piaf, Josephine Baker, Herbert von Karajan, Glenn Miller, Rudolf Nureyev, etc.) The Boléro dance sequence at the end brings all the threads together.

Negative Two

Devin is a young architect navigating dating in New York. His online exchange with a writer, Nico, increasingly turns to fixation. As their virtual conversation goes deeper, this film by directors Micaela Durand and Daniel Chew invites us into a dynamic state between sexual tension and eagerness to feel desired.

Lost Everything

A gay movie star struggles to stay in the closet, an art dealer fends off her abusive ex, and a televangelist plots to force his gay son into conversion therapy. Little do they know, their lives are about to converge on a deadly collision course.

I Want to Be Famous

Eleven-year-old Steve is the smallest boy in class. He thinks girls are soppy, detests football and prefers painting. To alleviate his loneliness, he occasionally escapes into an excitingly violent fantasy realm of his own creation. The story of Omar, a young gay man who lives in a neighbourhood he loves and neighbours that love him. But he is under pressure because he has fallen in love and he cannot even talk about it as he will end up revealing that he is homosexual — not even to his best friend Morad.

Rufus Stone is a short film about “love, sexual awakening, and treachery.” According to Director Josh Appignanesi, “the story dramatizes the old and continued prejudices of village life from three main perspectives.

Like a Brother

Sebastien is a small town boy who moves to Paris and begins to explore the gay night life there. When a friend from back home calls to announce he's coming to Paris, Sebastien confronts some unrequited feelings.

Sublet

A gay New York Times travel writer comes to Tel Aviv after suffering a tragedy. The energy of the city and his relationship with a younger man brings him back to life.
