The Steppe

Based on a Anton Chekhov short story, this slight tale has some good moments as the drama of a young boy's journey unfolds. The lad comes from peasant stock, and one day his family decides it would be best for him to go live with his uncle in the city. The only problem is that the city is all the way across the Russian steppes, and at this time in history, that arduous journey could only be undertaken by horse and carriage. Reminiscent of the American pioneer wagon trains heading West, the tale lacks any attacks from hostile forces but is filled with charming vignettes. In one part of the journey, the boy comes across some fishermen along a river, harpooning their catch for the day. In another segment, he is entertained when some folk dancers do a lively show. But in general, it is too long and unmomentous a journey to hold attention well for nearly two hours.

Happiness Guide

Masha and Valya, vegetarians and abstainers, invite their former friends Natasha and Sergey over. Natasha and Sergey took a mortgage, they are planning a child. Natasha tries to persuade Masha to throw a wedding party, nevertheless she hints at Valya being no good for Masha. Masha in reply tells Natasha that her husband Sergey drinks vodka on the quite. Natasha makes a scene to Sergey. Masha tries to reconcile friends and convince them of their relationship being cracked. The guests are leaving. Valya blames Masha for climbing out of her business. Then all of a sudden, Raj finds out that many policemen would like to see Khan go free. He discusses this issue with his father-in-law, and to his surprise, does not find any support from him. Disagreements and arguments ensue, and as a result, his father-in-law gets killed. The Police suspect Raj of killing him, they begin the process of arresting him, he runs away, while Khan is all set to get freed to do whatever he likes.

This video documentary follows Alice's career from his discovery by Frank Zappa at the Wiskey-a-GoGo in Los Angeles to his "Hey Stoopid" album in 1991. It looks at his personal life, like his long-time marriage to Cheryl and his battle with alchoholism, and professional relationships with his manager Shep Gordon and his producer Bob Ezrin. The Prime Cuts documentary was originally released in 1991 on VHS then reissued 16-Oct-2001 as part of a 2-disc DVD set with additional material.
