A Dreamer's Search

In 1918, Rockwell Kent leaves New York City with his eight-year-old son and travels to the rugged wilderness of Alaska in search of inspiration. Kent settles on a remote island, isolated and free to do his work. He befriends an old prospector whose stories energize his pursuit. As he struggles with internal turmoil, his son’s innocence and willingness to face failure inspire Kent to dig deep inside himself and begin again. Father and son’s connection blossoms as they embrace the wilderness experience together. Surrounded by the quiet magnificence of Fox Island, Kent creates the drawings and paintings that will catapult his career to national success and turn his dream into reality.

Is It A Plaisir

'Is it a plaisir' is an experimental short film that explores femininity and the body as a sharp territory, crossed by the tension between desire and imposition. Through symbolic, sound and visual saturation, the film acts from pleasure (plaisir), revealing a liberation that emerges in the midst of excess, where intensity and lightness, dark and light, intertwine, collide and converge.

Still haven't mastered removal of the rem-jet anti-halation layer (thats all the white 'static' on the film). The film expired about 40 years ago.

Since the day I was born

Since the day I was born is composed through a reflection on remorse and the search for mental liberation from the death of the individual. In the short film, barely two minutes long, an anonymous man remembers all the moments in which he has failed in the game of life; moments in which he has made mistakes, or has chosen the wrong option, harming someone close to him or himself, while his body hangs from a rope and is little by little deprived of oxygen. He regrets what he has experienced since the day he was born, but he also regrets the drastic decision he has just made.

The Song of the Butterflies

Rember Yahuarcani is an indigenous artist from the Uitoto Nation who lives in Lima, Peru. From his clan, the White Heron, only two families remain in Peru. Rember's paintings are inspired by the stories his grandmother Martha told him before she died. However, he has never dived into the darkest part of his nation’s history: the indigenous massacre during the rubber boom. Martha is a survivor of the horror and she speaks to Rember in dreams guiding him in a spiritual journey back to the jungle. He first visits his parents, who are also artists, in the Peruvian jungle. And finally, he sails to La Chorrera, in Colombia, where he confronts the past and meets other members of his clan.

This final digital version is based on the performance TABULA SMARAGDINA which I played together with the musician Thomas Köner between 1997 and 2004. For more information look at Performances. - In 2008 I started to digitize the 16 mm originals frame by frame in high definition just to reorganize the materials and give them after all a form for a linear progression. Contents are cristallized salts and dyes wich are changing rhythm and structure constantly between moving images. Inside the chemical elements of the film appears the bizarre richness of its materiality. (Jürgen Reble)
