Ringo Starr: One of Them

In the early 1960s, Ringo Starr, well known for his easygoing personality, became a legend as a member of The Beatles. Starr, primarily a drummer, also sang and occasionally wrote songs for the group, including "With a Little Help from My Friends" and "Octopus's Garden." In part, Starr's playing shaped rock n' roll for decades to come, as he kept the beat with his sharp, aggressive style behind the kit. As a result of the goodwill and fortune he earned as a Beatle, he was loved around the world and welcomed wherever he went. Even though he was the guy who could sing "Yellow Submarine" and get blisters on his fingers during "Helter Skelter," his success and status didn't protect him from the unseemly, upsetting, and depressing side of life. Although Starr has had more than his fair share of darkness and bad luck, he has been an honourable person through his contributions to music and charities.

Written in 1967, Sgt. Pepper’s was the world’s first concept album. The Beatles went into the studio, enthusiastically embracing the possibilities for experimentation that were blossoming at the time, and with no intention of playing the album live. Firstly, because they just didn’t feel like it (due to the hordes of screeching fans), but also because it was music that supposedly couldn’t be performed on stage, as it was too complicated. But that music just had to be played live at some point! Now The Analogues’ perform this masterwork live in all its analogue glory—an honor for which no effort has been spared with regards to a truckload of wild and wonderful vintage instruments. There’s a sitar and tabla drums for ‘Within You, Without You’, a rare Lowrey keyboard for ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’; a harp for ‘She’s Leaving Home’, plus, of course, a huge array of strings and horns. This is The Analogue’s quest to faithfully perform Sgt. Pepper’s live!

Abbey Road Studio 2 will subsequently see an explosion of creativity and innovation in song writing and recording techniques the likes of which has never been seen. Peppers' Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album, Let it Be and Abbey Road: these six iconic albums were recorded in the short space of five memorable years. Over 30,000 mentally or physically handicapped, psychiatric patients and inmates of concentration camps were gassed in Hartheim between 1940 and 1945. Today Hartheim Castle is rented and inhabited. In a place where 40 years ago thousands if lives were destroyed by industrial methods, today life asserts itself in the trite daily function of living. The documentation is about Hartheim Castle, in the past and in the present.
