Photodiary '87

I turned my gaze to the various events in daily life and made this filmic diary in a manner as if confessing my feelings. Of course, since I was making the film, I wanted to depict these feelings and events with tricky techniques. I used various methods to shoot photographs of a relative's wedding, the landscape I see from window of my house, commemorative travel photographs and the like frame-by-frame.

Hubert and Archibald, at night, when the store was deserted by the crowds of customers and the staff employed there, would go out to the big sales floor and sample the goods sold there. They did this for the sake of consumers, so as not to expose them to the consequences of buying expired products.

Austere sound effects and an Albeniz guitar piece are used to heighten this charmingly modest drama in which ordinary things – a hammer driving a nail, a flock of birds wheeling in the sky – are given their due.
