The Fly's Bride

The Fly's Bride was produced in 1929, one year following Van Beuren's edict that all cartoons would be produced in sound. The RCA Photophone System is the credited process, and Carl Edouarde is credited with "synchronization." The film continues the long-running silent series of Aesop's Fables ("sugar coated pills of wisdom" as the end titles remarked) that the studio turned out. This entry displays the lively brand of "rubber hose" animation that was common in the early sound era. The story opens as a swarm of white shoe-clad flies cavort in a kitchen (gags include a soft-shoe number danced over spilled salt and a cop fly directing traffic around a piece of flypaper). The story shifts outside as a fly calls his gal on the phone. Here some rare lip-synch is attempted during the dialogue; Van Beuren usually avoided dialogue in the years to come in favor of songs to help the story along.

Jethro Tull: Nothing Is Easy - Live at the Isle of Wight 1970

I Jethro Tull si sono formati alla fine degli anni '60 ed hanno realizzato il loro primo album "This Was" nel 1968. Guidati dal carismatico leader Ian Anderson, i Tull si sono esibiti costantemente ed hanno registrato album arrivati spesso ai primi posti delle classifiche inglesi ed americane, ottenendo un disco di platino ed uno d'oro e vincendo un Grammy Award; ancora oggi i loro concerti sono una grande attrazione in ogni parte del mondo. Nel 1970 i Jethro Tull hanno suonato al Festival dell'Isola di Wight davanti a 600.000 persone, mentre prima di quell'anno avevano realizzato il loro terzo album "Benefit", che vedeva la presenza nella band di un tastierista fisso. In quel concerto la band si è esibita in brani tratti dai suoi tre dischi, come "My Sunday Feeling", "Dharma For One", "Bourée", "Nothing Is Easy" e "My God", uno dei brani che avrebbe parte del famosissimo album "Aqualung", pubblicato dalla band l'anno seguente.

Nightwish: Decades Live in Buenos Aires

Decades: Live In Buenos Aires (ripreso il 30 settembre 2018 all’Estadio Malvinas) presenta una tracklist che sarebbe eufemistico definire semplicemente interessante. Nelle due ore di show i Nightwish ripropongono pezzi dell’era che fu e lo fanno avvalendosi della professionalità inimitabile di Floor Jansen al microfono e le sonorità folk di Troy Donockley. Un live, insomma, per tutti i nostalgici dell’era con Tarja Turunen, ma anche la prova provata che la carriera di un gruppo musicale è un continuum che può (ri)vivere di momenti considerati irreversibilmente defunti. Difficilmente ritroveremo questi brani in altri live show.

A proposito di Davis

Il luogo dell'evento era la storica Piazza della Libertà di Kharkov, Ucraina, un luogo così grande che durante la seconda guerra mondiale veniva usato per far atterrare gli aerei. Più di 350.000 ucraini sono venuti a vederli suonare e più di 1o milioni di case hanno guardato lo spettacolo in diretta televisiva il 12 settembre 2008.
