Takumi e la figlia Hana vivono nel villaggio di Mizubiki, nei pressi di Tokyo. Come altre generazioni prima di loro, conducono una vita modesta assecondando i cicli e l’ordine della natura. Un giorno, gli abitanti del villaggio vengono a conoscenza del progetto di costruire, vicino alla casa di Takumi, un glamping, inteso a offrire ai residenti delle città una piacevole fonte di “evasione” nella natura. Quando due funzionari di Tokio giungono al villaggio per tenere un incontro, diventa chiaro che il progetto avrà un impatto negativo sulla rete idrica locale, e ciò causa il malcontento generale. Le intenzioni contraddittorie dell’agenzia mettono in pericolo sia l’equilibrio ecologico dell’altopiano sia lo stile di vita degli abitanti, con profonde ripercussioni sulla vita di Takumi.
