Il cavalier Pezzella possiede e gestisce un lussuoso negozio di abbigliamento molto ben avviato, ma evade le tasse. Purtroppo per lui la Guardia di Finanza decide di inviare un'ispezione, nella persona del maresciallo Topponi. Iniziano così i tentativi di Pezzella di entrare nelle grazie dell'inossidabile maresciallo fino a cercare di corromperlo; goffi tentativi che daranno non pochi grattacapi al maresciallo a causa dell'invadenza e della cialtroneria di Pezzella e quindi si ritorceranno contro chi li aveva orditi.
